Only 3% US Mobile Users Browse the Web...

In a CNET article covering Yahoo's recent testing of image ads on mobile phones, I found some interesting statistics on the current state of mobile internet usage in the U.S. The statistics are provided by JupiterResearch:
"JupiterResearch estimates that 10 percent of U.S. mobile users browse the Internet on their phones. But only 2 percent to 3 percent check the Web on their phones at least five times a week--a key measure of active Internet use and advertising readiness."
Two thoughts came across my mind after reading into these statistics. 1. I am one of the three-percentile who surfs the web with a mobile phone at least five times a week. 2. There is not enough audience surfing the web on mobile handsets to justify any advertising through the mobile browsers (yet). With the onset of new 3G phones coming out soon, the statistics will surely increase exponentially in the next 6 to 12 months.
